A position held over years requires maintenance that is easy to defer indefinitely because nothing appears to be wrong.

## Task one: the recovery rehearsal

Restore from a backup onto a device that has never seen the wallet, following only the written procedure.

If it works, the procedure is real. If it does not, you found out at a moment of your choosing.

People who do this find something roughly every other year: a changed software format, a missing derivation path, a backup stored somewhere no longer accessible. For a position held over years, it helps to have a published reference, and [a corporate crypto wallet](https://collectnexchange.cy/business-solutions/corporate-crypto-wallet) publishes its terms.

## Task two: the authorisation check

For every provider holding anything on your behalf, verify the register entry.

Entity name against the current terms of service. Permissions against what they do for you. Conditions and enforcement history.

Five minutes each. Providers are acquired, permissions are varied and clients are migrated to different contracting entities, and none of it is announced. On the receiving side the equivalent is [a provider serving funds and family offices](https://collectnexchange.cy/industries/funds-family-offices), with settlement already handled.

## Task three: the record export

Export the complete history from every venue you have used, including ones you no longer use.

Store it outside any provider's system.

This is the task with an invisible deadline. Venues cease operating and their records go with them, and for a position built over years the venue statements are what evidence the acquisition history.

## Task four: the terms review

Four clauses at each provider: the contracting entity, the liability cap, the insolvency position, and whether they may use client assets.

Everything else can wait. Those four determine the outcome if something goes wrong, and they change in terms updates nobody reads.

## What this takes

An afternoon a year.

## What it catches

In the first year people typically find something at more than one provider. The recovery rehearsal is the task most likely to surface a genuine problem, and the record export is the one most likely to be impossible if deferred another year. The thing that only matters once is whether [a support channel with a named contact](https://collectnexchange.cy/company/contact-us) exists as a reachable contact, and it is worth establishing early.

## The one to do first

The record export, because it is the only one with a deadline you cannot see.
