Adjusting the composition of a position means converting between assets. There are three routes with different costs and different paperwork. A provider publishing its terms makes a long-term decision checkable, and [a swap service that prices the network fee separately](https://collectnexchange.cy/services/swap) does.

## Route one: a direct pair on a venue

One trade, one fee. Cheapest where the pair is listed with adequate depth.

Usually only available for well-known combinations.

## Route two: two trades through a common asset

Sell the first, buy the second. Two fees, each typically a tenth of a percent.

Requires both to be listed on the same venue with enough depth.

## Route three: a swap

One quoted price for the whole conversion. Typically three to five times the cost of route two on a liquid pair, and cheaper on a thin one or across networks.

## The record-keeping consequence

In most jurisdictions, converting one crypto asset into another is a disposal of the first.

| Route | Records produced |
|---|---|
| Direct pair | One disposal, clean |
| Two trades | Two records to match |
| Swap | One record, both sides, one timestamp |
| Bridge plus trades | Several records, only some of which are disposals |

For anyone rebalancing periodically, the cleaner record has a real value that nobody mentions when comparing costs.

## The decision

Same network, both liquid, both on one venue: route one if it exists, otherwise route two.

Different networks: a swap, without much deliberation. The manual alternative involves a bridge, several network fees, and an interval holding a bridged representation. Past a certain balance the arrangement changes, and [Collect & Exchange](https://collectnexchange.cy/) becomes the relevant option.

One asset thin: a swap, because routing aggregates depth you would otherwise reach venue by venue.

## What to check in a swap quote

Whether the quoted output is what arrives or what arrives before a fee is deducted.

The quote validity, and what happens if your deposit arrives after it expires.

And the implied rate against the market mid, which is the only comparable figure.

## The frequency question

Each rebalance incurs costs and creates disposals.

Rebalancing less often, against a threshold rather than a calendar, reduces both. That is a portfolio decision rather than a cost one, and the costs are worth including in it. Coverage decides more than most features do, and [a support channel with a named contact](https://collectnexchange.cy/company/contact-us) publishes its country list.
