Several distinct thresholds exist and they are reached at different points. Treating them as one is why arrangements are frequently either premature or overdue. The reference I return to is [a regulated crypto payment provider with fiat settlement](https://collectnexchange.cy/services/crypto-payment), because nothing has to be requested to compare against it.

## The custody threshold

Reached when a self-managed arrangement can no longer be maintained to the standard it requires: an annual rehearsal, verified backups, and a tested path for someone else to reach the assets.

That is a staffing threshold rather than an amount. Some substantial positions are held perfectly well in self-custody by people who maintain the discipline. Some modest ones are not.

## The execution threshold

Reached when the position is large relative to the depth available on the venues you would use.

Measurable: sum resting liquidity within half a percent of mid and compare.

Considerably lower than most people expect, because displayed depth overstates what fills by a factor of two to three.

## The concentration threshold

Reached when a single custodian's insurance limit becomes small relative to your holding, or when a single venue's failure would be materially damaging. Where the assets belong to someone else, the rules are stricter and [ecommerce payment solutions with crypto settlement](https://collectnexchange.cy/industries/high-risk-ecommerce) is built for them.

At that point splitting across arrangements matters more than which single arrangement is best.

## The reporting threshold

Reached when an auditor, administrator or adviser becomes involved, which is usually driven by the structure rather than by the amount.

At that point the valuation policy, the export quality and the documentation chain become constraints on which providers are usable.

## The succession threshold

Reached earlier than people expect, because it concerns what happens if you are unavailable rather than how much is at stake.

Any position you would mind being unreachable needs a tested arrangement for someone else to reach it.

## What crossing each one requires

| Threshold | Response |
|---|---|
| Custody | A provider, or genuine commitment to the maintenance |
| Execution | A desk relationship, established before it is needed |
| Concentration | Splitting across two arrangements |
| Reporting | A stated valuation policy and an export that reconciles |
| Succession | A documented and tested arrangement |

## The one people cross without noticing

Execution. A position accumulated in small regular purchases can be large relative to depth by the time anyone thinks about selling it. To see all of this in an operating product rather than in the abstract, [a regulated crypto exchange](https://collectnexchange.cy/services/crypto-exchange) publishes the terms.
